The Path through the Woods. An alternative interpretation of Dante's "selva oscura"

Abstract

In this paper, I would like to put forward the idea that Dante's "selva oscura" is not only a metaphor for human sin and error but also a metaphor for the writing of poetry. In doing so, I hasten to add, I am not excluding any other interpretation of it.
